Infants
Welcome to the Infant Page!
We are a mixed age class of 4 to 7 year olds who love to learn, laugh and explore the world around us. Our class teacher is Miss Calder and our teaching assistants are Miss Przystupa and Miss Mcveigh (HLTA). We are proud of our class and always enjoy showing it off to others!
We have designed our curriculum to deliver the national primary objectives and ELG's in a way which not only reflects our values as a school community but fosters the most meaningful experiences and application of learning for our pupils. We want each child to leave Stanton with a strong foundation of knowledge and understanding of the world in which we live: an appreciation of its diverse cultures; respect for our changing environment and to be positive global citizens. Each term children will focus on a different topic/country, studying its geography, history, culture and significant contributions to society.
As the children move from term to term and year to year, studying a range of countries for all continents they will build an in depth understanding of the world. We believe that making links between each country and providing a real life context will make learning relevant and memorable. We also know that good learning is a product of strong partnerships between home and school so each term we will invite parents into school providing an opportunity to showcase our work.

Our Topic - Space
Our topic for this term is space. Please see our topic web (below) for an overview of all the exciting areas we will be learning about! The Y1 and Y2 groups will be focusing on 'Traction Man is Here' by Mini Grey during literacy lessons, whilst the EYFS will be using 'Bedtime for Monsters' by Ed Vere for theirs. The historical focus is on remarkable animals and people in space and the geographical focus is on exploring our earth and surroundings. We will also be taking part in a trip to the space centre to coincide with our space topic. This is a great topic that I am certainly enjoying teaching the children.

Phonics
At Stanton-in-Peak, we believe that all our children can become fluent readers and writers. This is why we teach reading through Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised, which is a systematic and synthetic phonics programme. We start teaching phonics in Reception and follow the Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised progression, which ensures children build on their growing knowledge of the alphabetic code, mastering phonics to read and spell as they move through school.
We have a strong focus on language development for our children because we know that speaking and listening are crucial skills for reading and writing in all subjects.

A love of reading is the biggest indicator of future academic success.

Here at Stanton-in-Peak we understand the importance of reading. Your children's reading skills will be of great benefit to them across the entire curriculum and beyond. As such, we have planned a well-rounded reading curriculum that will inspire your children as well as teaching fluency, comprehension and prosody.

Outdoor Learning
I love leading forest school sessions with the infant class and see the many benefits it has. Sessions will continue to take place in school grounds as well as in the nearby forest schools site on Friday afternoons. I am excited for the sessions to come and believe that forest school is an incredibly rewarding and important experience for all. It is important their clothing keeps them warm and dry as we go outside in almost all weather conditions.
