Christian Distinctiveness

Peak Tor Federation Vision Statement

Please scan for our Padlet on Spirituality and Christian Distinctiveness.

As a federation within the Diocese of Derbyshire we are distinctly Christian in our ethos and outlook and are inclusive to all. Underlying everything we do is Jesus’ commandment that we should love one another as he first loved us. We strive to create an environment where every member of our federation can flourish. We work hard to develop and sustain our school’s Christian distinctiveness. Our Head teacher, school staff and governing body have a clear vision of a school with a distinctive Christian character. We work in close partnership with Father Anthony Kaunhoven and Holy Trinity Church, Stanton-in-Peak.

Stanton-in-Peak C of E Primary School Vision Statement

It is our responsibility as a Church of England school to provide the children with the building blocks of the Christian faith through the means of worship, prayer and familiarity with Scripture. Our children are challenged to think for themselves about the big questions that face the world today, within an environment which is accepting of other faiths and cultures. After consulting all stakeholders we have rewritten our schools Christian Vision:

As a community we nurture our pupils' spiritual, moral, social and cultural development with the aim of encouraging children to live life in all its fullness through the Christian values of love, respect, empathy, belief and kindness. We do this through our love of life and the great outdoors encouraging the children to be stewards in God's world, spreading his love and light.

“Life in all its fullness.” John 10:10

The first part of the story of 'The Good Shepherd' John 10, relates to Jesus being the one who brings life in all its fullness- he saved us by dying on the cross through his amazing grace and forgiveness. Therefore, the message to our pupils, staff and wider community is that to live life in all its fullness is to live life through Him- as he intended.

We choose our school values to represent this (respect, compassion, belonging, faith and love). We guide our children to get to know the God who created the world,  made us, sent us his son and forgave us. This is reflected in our whole school ethos and wider curriculum including our Religious Education, Collective Worships, relationship with the local church and community and our Forest School offer. Our school ethos is brought alive by our staff and pupils every day.

This vision statement was created after consultation with governors, staff, parents and pupils in May 2021.

Stanton-in-Peak C of E Primary School Values

Our visions and values are at the core of everything we do. They underpin our teaching and learning, and provide an environment which prepares our pupils as confident, happy citizens.  Whilst we teach and live by all Christian values the main values chosen by our stakeholders are as follows:

  • Love
  • Respect
  • Empathy
  • Belief
  • Kindness

Love - "Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth."

- Corinthians 13 4:5

Respect - "Do for other people the same things you want them to do for you."

- Matthew 7:12

Empathy - "Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep."

- Romans 12:15

Belief - " Whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do."

- John 14:12-14

Kindness - "Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you."

- Ephesians 4:32

Stakeholder Views - Christian Values

Distinctly Christian

We are proud to be a Christian school and our Christian distinctiveness shines through our Forest School ethos. We believe that in order to develop spiritually, morally and socially you have to be at one with God’s world. We aim to develop our pupils’ beliefs through combining the schools love of the outdoors with our Christianity.

We have weekly Worship in the Woods where the whole school community can come together and rejoice in God’s world. As part of these sessions we teach our Christian values and learn how to connect with God through nature. We learn to appreciate God’s world and think of ways we can look after it.

The recent pandemic has highlighted to us all the human desire for outdoors. The link between God’s world, our spiritual self and mental wellbeing is clear. We think it is essential that our children grow up, not just accepting the world around us but seeing, feeling and appreciating its power. It is essential that we teach children to understand their part as stewards, ensuring that we all look after God’s world.

‘When you come to the woods, come to receive. Leave your worries at home.’ Unknown
